would you pay to attend a wedding?
A question posed in a now viral video has many, p&c included, scratching their heads. If you’re willing to pay big bucks for an experience like a Beyoncé concert, would you be willing to shell it out for a wedding? Whether it’s to cover costs or narrow the guest list, some couples have already begun charging friends and family upwards of $450 a head and the reactions they’ve received have surprised them.
According to the knot.com, the average cost of a wedding in 2023 was $35,000. That’s a $5,000 increase from the year before. So does this guy have a point? Afterall, Queen Bee does charge upwards of $400 for prime seats at her concerts. Will we soon be expected to put these two events on the same playing field?
Not surprisingly, most etiquette experts seem to agree that no, guests should not be expected to pay. To summarize for all those considering selling tickets to their guests, instead, set a budget and work with what you’ve got.
