pets: 6 new puppy parent must-haves
By: Brigiite Valadez
We adopted Ollie when he was just (we think) 3 months old. Even though he’s destroyed more socks, toys and underwear than we can count, we’re still loving every second of being his paw-rents! He’s part of our family and our loyal companion. Gone are the days of peeing or cuddling alone. Below are our 6 new puppy parent must-haves.
1. For puppies who pull on their leash: FIDA pet cares so much about dogs well-being that they created a whole line of products to help alleviate burst behavior. Our active little guy is a proud new owner of the No Pull Harness and Heavy Duty Dog Collar. The harness has a hidden backpack and a poop bag dispenser! Plus, it’s designed with 2 heavy-duty metal rings– use the front attached clip for no-pull control on walks and the back clip for hiking or jogging.
2. For puppies who get dirty: We use Pogi's Plant-Based Dog Grooming Wipes for “puppy baths” (cleaning Ollie in between baths), wiping his dirty paws after walks and cleaning his booty hole after he poops. They’re hypoallergenic and free of parabens, sulfates, alcohol. They’re also loaded with conditioning ingredients to protect their skin.
3. For puppies who shed: Ollie smells SO good after taking baths with Kindfull’s Lavender Chamomile Gentle Puppy Shampoo! We keep that on hand along with Wahl’s Shed Control Pet Shampoo which gets super sudsy when his hair is a bit longer. Both are alcohol-free and paraben-free.
4. For puppies who are potty training: Potty training is a trying time for new moms and dads. Repetition, pee pads and treat rewards is what worked for us! Hartz Home Protection has the best odor eliminating pads with leak protection and a lavender scent. Ollie loves the taste of Blue Buffalo Savory Salmon Bits and I love that they are shaped like little hearts! To prevent accidents, we had Ollie wear disposable male dog wraps too.
5. For puppies who adventure: We’re obsessed with this Gorilla Grip portable dog water bottle because it has a built-in bowl! You just unlock it, squeeze and the water comes out of the top for drinking. It’s so convenient for car rides, hiking or shopping sprees. We also own the pet leash which is so durable if your pup is a chewer like ours!
6. For puppies with upset tummies: A can of pumpkin– like Target’s Organic Pumpkin– is always a good idea to have in your pantry. Whenever Ollie has an upset tummy, I mix a little pumpkin into his food or spread a little onto his licking mat. These TARVOS silicone dog licking mats from Petco (and Target) were gifted to us and we love them because they have suction cups on the back that stick to our glass windows!
