  • Small dog sitting on bed inside Sideways Inn room

    stay: Sideways Inn

YES, that Sideways Inn! Renovated since the filming of the movie and located only 7 min away from downtown Solvang in the city of Buellton, Sideways Inn is clean, cute and dog friendly! After checking into our room inside the old-world windmill, we were quickly informed of the complimentary morning coffee and beer/wine tastings during happy hour! Other perks of staying here: an in-room mini fridge, microwave, wifi and a knock & drop breakfast courtesy Drover’s Doughnuts. If you’re into working out during a vacation (I am not), they have a cool gym too! More of a lounger (like me)? Check out their pool and jacuzzi! One thing to keep in mind, the walls are thin which caused our pup to bark at the noises.

  • piece of butter fried biscuit

    eat: Coast Range

I will never forget the crispy on the outside, moist on the inside buttery biscuit I had during brunch at Coast Range. It literally changed my life. I also ordered a shrimp salad (which has since disappeared from their menu) because balance. We loved the outdoor dining where the chef’s pup hung out with us while we ate! Make a res to eat there before the biscuit disappears too.

  • Christmas store decorations tree navidad

    shop: Jule Hus

It’s Christmas all year round at Jule Hus! The gift shop is open every day of the week and sells the most unique decorations including old European ornaments. What stood out to us was the friendly staff which were all dressed in traditional Danish costumes! Plus, it’s a small business so it feels nice to support by buying there– they’ve been there since 1967!

Fun Fact: Jule Hus is Danish for Christmas House

  • Danish dessert chocolates the solvang bakery

    indulge: The Solvang Bakery

My husband and I have a HUGE sweet tooth so when we stumbled upon The Solvang Bakery, we had to indulge! The family owned and operated shop specializes in Danish pastries and custom gingerbread houses but they have every treat to satisfy any craving! It’s a fav among the Kardashians, Kelly Ripa, Neil Patrick Harris, David Burtka, Amy Grant, Elton John and has been featured on the Ellen Show and Hallmark's Home and Family.

  • woman and man holding Ostrich food

    experience: Ostrichland

This is on every Solvang list for a reason! Ostrichland is a one-of-a-kind experience especially if you have little ones. We took our dog Ollie who preferred to keep his distance. Buy some Ostrich food for $1 to feed the birds and get some epic photos with them! They also have a gift shop (because of course they do) if you want souvenirs or a bottle of water.
